Rape Is God's Will

The Republican Party has long been regarded as anti-woman. After all, it was far-right hero Rush Limbaugh who coined the term "feminazi" to describe those women who dared violate his archaic view of gender roles. I suppose it was inevitable that the party would become anti-woman as soon as they adopted Christian extremism and began to work to strip women of basic reproductive rights. And yet, the vile anti-woman agenda of the Republican Party and their Christian extremist colleagues still catches me off guard at times.

I suspect you've already heard about the lawsuit a retired Sergeant brought against the Pentagon after she was sexually assaulted while serving in Afghanistan. According to Sergeant Havrilla's lawsuit, she sought help from a military chaplain after she encountered a fellow soldier who had raped her a few years earlier. According to the lawsuit,
When SGT Havrilla met with the military chaplain, he told her that 'it must have been God's will for her to be raped' and recommended that she attend church more frequently.

Wow! I've read this quote over and over, and it still makes me feel ill. By itself, it could be dismissed as an isolated bit of craziness; however, when we consider it in the broader context of what is starting to look like a Republican war on women, it becomes much harder to ignore.

  1. I think it's sad that the Republican Party has sunk so low that it is now 'long regarded as anti-woman.' What ever happened to the party that fought for freedoms? The party that freed the slaves? The party that was for federal government, Lincoln being seen as the founder of the Republican Party. Instead there seems to have been a party flip. Where once the South was rich Democratic whites who wanted to be left alone and embraced slavery and fought for succession, those men have no become Republicans of similar values. While their opponents have shifted to the Democratic Party to avoid them. This happened because of the whole 'reconstruction' thing and the push to earn southern votes in congress. Look at where appeasing them got us, the same hate from an elite class with blind followers. Sorry this didn't have much to do with woman's rights, it's wrong what they allow to happen, but the whole system is full of silly bull.

  7. Lot of liberals in here. Maybe you should realize all parties are the same and play off each other for your obedience. All US govt= corrupt. Once we elec..... I mean once an atheist is ruling this country we will have logic once again. And we can restart this economy by starting anti brainwashing schools to re-educate our population. Then we can have good old fashion rape without someones make believe deity involved. I mean FUCK how can a grown adult beleive in.....

  8. Not saying that republicans don't necessarily have an anti-women agenda, but the incident you quote only refers to an unknown denomination of Christianity. You don't tell us how it is linked to the republican party. You talk as if we are to assume Christian = Republican.

  17. Speaking of God's will, I knew a girl in high school who prayed to ask God what sandwich she should eat that day, because she wanted to 'walk the path he set for her.'

I didn't have the heart to tell her that the voice she was hearing was that little voice everyone has in their head, or stomach, that says I'm hungry, just eat the damn pastrami sandwich, you idiot.

  19. War on women, war on the poor, war on Hispanics, war on gays, war, war, war...

It's the only way these infants know how to express themselves. It would be laughable if they didn't have a mindless throng of followers that played right into their fascist agenda.

One of the big reasons I left....

  20. Wow. This is probably the most ignorant thing I have ever read. A few stupid people and suddenly it's "down with the evil christian extremist arrogant archaic evil fascist republicans!!" Seriously? Before you write something that slanders about 150 million people, do a little research and maybe learn a bit about politics. Thar being said I agree it is sad and pitiful to see people still have these viewpoints. To be fair though most political parties today are crazy.
